Qualifications

CUSTODIANS, 2ND & 3RD SHIFT

The Custodian performs a variety of janitorial tasks in the care of Kenosha County's buildings and grounds and maintains a safe and clean environment for staff. These employees may be assigned to work at any of our campuses: Civic Center, Public Safety Building, Detention Center, Job Center, County Center, or Brookside Care Center.

2025 Hiring Range: $20.31 - $23.08 per hour

Work Schedule

The current openings are at the Kenosha County Public Safety Building, 1000 55th Street, Kenosha

  • 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM with rotating weekends; shift premium of $0.25 per hour
  • 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM with rotating weekends; shift premium of $0.35 per hour
  • Must work overtime when needed

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs normal custodial tasks such as removing trash; sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors; carpet extraction; cleaning washrooms, cleaning mirrors, filling hand soap/paper towels/toilet paper
  • Performs grounds maintenance activities such as trash pickup and snow/ice removal
  • Assists other maintenance staff as requested
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

Success Factors

Knowledge of:

  • Chemicals and tools used for cleaning and the necessary tools used to complete the task at hand
  • Operation and general maintenance of outdoor equipment such as snow blowers, snow pushers, and Bobcats
  • Operation of building maintenance equipment
  • Computer software including Microsoft Office Outlook (e-mail and calendar functions), Word, Excel, and Internet navigation
  • Smart phone operation (Android or Apple)

Ability to:

  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Exercise good judgment
  • Effectively work to support a customer-service, team-oriented, continuous-improvement facilities maintenance environment
  • Troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Work independently as a self-starter
  • Remain professional and courteous at all times
  • Work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment

Job Requirements, Education, Training and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Custodial/maintenance experience a plus, with strong attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Physical Demands

  • This position involves moderate physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 25 pounds of force frequently
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist
  • Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time performing snow removal operations when temperatures are less than 32 degrees
