Description

Job Title: Custodian 2 - Night Relief

Position Function: The primary role of the Night Relief Custodian 2 is to support custodial staff in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for students and staff. Responsibilities include various custodial tasks, coverage for night lead custodian, supervising or training part-time custodial staff, and handling special projects as needed.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

1. Perform daily duties in assigned areas, including dusting, waste disposal, sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms, and assisting with lunchroom cleanup.
2. Perform weekly duties such as buffing, high dusting, carpet spotting, lighting, floor sealing/waxing, wall and furniture cleaning, and carpet cleaning.
3. Manage energy use by turning lights and water off/on as per guidelines.
4. Coordinate with Building Custodial Supervisor regarding school activities and community use, and arrange necessary services and cleaning.
5. Respond to staff requests, including setting up AV equipment.
6. Report maintenance, supply, and equipment needs to supervisor.
7. Secure the building by checking windows, doors, and lights before leaving, especially if alone.
8. Remove marks and graffiti, spray buff floors, and assist with recycling as needed.
9. Respond appropriately to emergencies.

Additional Duties

Assist with additional duties assigned by supervisor.

Equipment

Use hand tools, power equipment, and technology including SMART boards and iPads, adhering to WPS guidelines.

Travel

Travel between buildings as required.

Physical and Mental Demands

• Work in typical school and office environments, outdoors in various weather conditions, and handle chemicals and other hazards.
• Meet physical capacity requirements, including climbing, exerting force, and physical movements like bending and reaching.
• Attend meetings and work overtime if needed.

• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Teamwork, decision-making, professionalism, confidentiality, and proper appearance.
• Knowledge of mission, goals, asbestos, and mechanical operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1+ year custodial experience required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Pass Physical Capacity Profile Test and Prove It testing for reading and arithmetic.
