Serves on custodial crew to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the university and grounds. Works in various facilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform housekeeping tasks, manual labor, and other activities necessary for efficient operation of campus in offices, classrooms, laboratories, residence hall lobbies, bathrooms, stairwells, elevators, hallways, and other assigned areas.
- Clean by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing.
- Mix or blend routine cleaning solutions to proper concentration (~30%).
- Empty trash and recycling containers, transport waste material to outdoor refuse or recycling containers as appropriate.
- Handle hazardous materials, including transporting bio-hazardous waste boxes to storage for pickup.
- Determine by visual inspection if material is acceptable or unacceptable for recycling according to written standards.
- Clean, decontaminate, and deodorize waste containers.
- Perform floor maintenance and special cleaning tasks: cleaning, stripping, waxing, polishing floors, carpet cleaning with industrial grade machines.
- Remove stains from carpets and resilient floors.
- Strip floors using chemical strippers, scrubs, spray buffs, or burnishes resilient floors.
- Operate wet/dry vacuum, carpet extraction equipment or other commercial equipment as required for cleaning and shampooing carpets and cleaning water leaks.
- Clean and remove stains from upholstered furniture.
- Use equipment according to label direction for correct dilution and application.
- Operate a flood pump or other equipment to remove flood waters from buildings.
- Move/rearrange office furniture, fixtures, lab equipment, and set up tables, chairs, partitions, sign stanchions, and other related equipment for special events.
- Wash building exteriors, windows, walls, fixtures, steps, and sidewalks using power washers, pressure sprayers, commercial window washing equipment, cleaning solutions, ladders, scaffolds, hydraulic man-lifts, or other related equipment or materials.
- Service equipment, such as checking fuel, oil, solution tanks, and filling as needed.
- Unlock/lock campus buildings, labs, offices, or rooms using assigned keys and maintain security of all keys.
- Perform other specified tasks, including maintaining and cleaning equipment, wearing safety gear, reporting maintenance or safety hazards, and reporting need for supplies.
- Perform other duties as necessary to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the university.
Qualifications
Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.
