Summary: The Custodian 1, Head, will supervise custodians, perform cleaning, minor maintenance, yard duties, and assign tasks to provide a clean and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities.
Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department. Take responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in large scale housekeeping and yard maintenance knowledge, with one (1) year of related management or supervisory experience required.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: All Custodians 1, Head employees must successfully complete Florida School Plant Management Association (FSPMA) professional custodial training program and successful completion of the Custodial Operations Career Advancement Training program through Hillsborough County Public Schools.
Language Skills: Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Writes routine reports and correspondence. Speaks effectively before groups of individuals.
Mathematical Skills: Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes rate, ratio, and percent and draws and interprets bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Microsoft Office.
