Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an entry-level Custodian 1 to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions in state buildings. No prior experience is required, and training will cover basic cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and restroom sanitation. The position covers state agencies across Louisiana.

Pay is $800.00 bi-weekly ($10.00/hour) with premium pay of $3.00/hour for worked hours. Contact Cathy W.

Responsibilities

• To perform basic manual tasks in order to maintain the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of state buildings, facilities, institutions, etc.
• Cleans bathrooms, offices, hallways, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
• Empties and decontaminates trash containers; may assist in disposing of infectious waste.
• Moves, rearranges, and dusts furniture and fixtures.
• Learns to mix or blend cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary for various tasks.
• Assists in setting up tables, chairs, and other furniture for special meetings, banquets, or other occasions.
• Washes blinds, windows, and walls with prescribed solutions.
• Operates vacuum for cleaning carpeted areas.
• Strips, decontaminates, and makes beds for patients, residents, students, etc.
• Reports needs for minor building and/or equipment repairs to a higher-level custodian.
• Washes, dries, folds, and issues clothing, linens, etc. as assigned.
• May perform basic grounds work by picking up trash, watering plants, etc.
