Position Information

Position: #P23255, Full-time: 40 hours, Pay: $17.97 per hour, Location: 37th & O Street NW, Washington, DC 20057

Job Overview

In accordance with a detailed cleaning plan, the incumbent performs general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe and pleasant physical environment. The incumbent also performs other tasks as assigned in emergency or unusual situations, following guidance from the supervisor.

Examples of additional work include snow and ice removal, cleanup after water or fire damage, and special event support.

The incumbent is expected to clean up to 28,000-35,000 square feet of cleanable space per eight-hour work day.

Responsibilities

• Perform general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to maintain a clean, safe, and pleasant environment.
• Clean up to 28,000-35,000 square feet of cleanable space per eight-hour work day.
• Perform additional tasks such as snow and ice removal, cleanup after water or fire damage, and support for special events as directed by supervisors.
• Use standard tools, equipment, materials, and supplies of the trade.
• Observe all safety rules, regulations, and precautions.

Work Interactions

This position reports directly to one of the Custodial Supervisors and may work alone or with others. The incumbent may also perform assignments from the Manager of Custodial Services, the Night Operations Manager, and other department managers such as the Director of Facilities Management and the Infrastructure Manager. The incumbent represents the department to the university community and visitors, maintaining a professional demeanor, complying with attendance policies, and showing flexibility with schedule for emergencies such as staffing shortages or snow removal.

Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of custodial work experience preferred.
• Valid and current driver's license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia.
• Basic knowledge of English, including the ability to read, write and speak English to understand product labels and university policies.
• Ability to communicate custodial and maintenance problems clearly to supervisors or the Work Management Center.
• Will complete a training program in building cleaning.
