Job summary

City of Lake Worth Beach is seeking a Custodian to perform a wide range of cleaning for City Buildings. The role supports a fast-paced environment and reports to the Building Facility Manager at the Public Services Building, 1749 3rd Ave S, Lake Worth, FL 33460.

The successful candidate will have a High School Diploma or GED, experience in commercial janitorial work, and a valid Florida driver’s license. Duties include routine cleaning, basic repairs, and equipment operation in a unionized

Responsibilities

• Maintains supplies and orders stock as needed.

The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Custodian.

This Full-Time Non-Exempt position is based on a 40-hour work week with a pay rate of $16.9183.

This position is part of the (PEU) Public Employees Union collective bargaining agreement and will work at Public Services Building located at 1749 3rd Avenue South, Lake Worth, FL 33460.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position performs a wide range of custodial cleaning for City Buildings and Facilities. The successful candidate is at ease working in partnership with other team members in a high volume, fast-paced environment. This position reports to the Lake Worth Beach Building Facility Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Scrubs, mops, waxes and polishes floors. Dusts and polishes furniture; washes windows, woodwork, toilets,washrooms, and fixtures.
• Shampoos rugs, replaces light bulbs, and assists in making simple repairs to equipment, hardware, and furniture.
• Empties ashtrays and wastebaskets.
• Takes out trash for disposal.
• Cleansupgroundsandareasaroundbuildings.
• Assists in moving files, heavy desks and other furniture.
• Assists in moving offices to various sections of City buildings.
• Assembles and disassembles various pieces of office equipment such as desks, chairs, file cabinets, etc., in the performance of these duties.
• Recommends purchase of various stock items; maintains stock/inventory levels, orders required supplies.

JOB STANDARDS:

An employee in this class is responsiblefor the custodial services of all City Buildings and Facilities. All work is performed according to the practices and procedures of the Public Works Department and the City of Lake Worth Beach.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Toperform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EQUIPMENT:

• Operates mechanical equipment in the maintenance of buildings and premises, such as waxers, polishers, vacuum cleaners, trimmers, pressure washers, etc.
• Operates sedan or light duty truck in running errands and in pick-up and delivery of supplies and equipment.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Experience in commercial janitorial work.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license.

PHYSCIAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hand s and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Must be willing to work varied hours, first, second and/or third shift and/or weekends.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Works inside in an air-conditioned office, environment as well as outdoors in varying andchanging weather conditions.
