Job Summary

Performs custodial support for school activities. Custodian will strive to provide a clean, healthful and pleasant environment for students, staff and school patrons.

Essential Job Functions

• Responsible for routine custodial duties in all areas of the building.
• Respond to spills, accidents, etc. that require immediate custodial attention.
• Clean light fixtures and change bulbs & lamps.
• Anticipate supply needs and report them to the Head Custodian.
• Maintain custodial closets in a clean and orderly condition.
• Provide assistance to maintenance personnel when directed.
• Perform related or special tasks as assigned by the Head Custodian and School Administrator.
• During the summer months, school breaks or in the event of an emergency all custodial employees are subject to call for routine or emergency duties in the building other than their regular assignment.
• If working the daytime shift, remove snow from the exterior entry door areas and sidewalk; spread sand, salt or other chemicals to prevent slipping.
• Perform general manual labor tasks including loading, unloading, lifting and moving materials.
• Promote an environment free of harassment and discrimination.
• Demonstrate a commitment to work.
• Work independently with minimum supervision, using good judgment and common sense.
• Be available to work additional hours and/or be on call as required to meet the needs of the position.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Equipment

Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, and snow shovels. Operate equipment and machinery to provide a safe environment and maintain assigned equipment in a clean, operationally ready condition.

Work Schedule

260 days per year, 8 hours per day.
