Job summary

Rosebud Elementary is seeking a Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant school environment. You will be responsible for cleaning interiors, maintaining grounds, and ensuring proper operation of HVAC and safety systems. The role is full-time and requires reliability and consistent attendance.

The position starts immediately with direct supervision by the Building Administrator. Experience in building maintenance and ability to perform physical tasks are preferred.

Responsibilities

Job Description

POSITION: Custodian

Positions Available: Rosebud Elementary

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12month

EVALUATION: Building Administrator

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

SUMMARY: To insure that the facilities and grounds are clean, safe, and in compliance with state and federal guidelines. Provide students with a clean, comfortable, and safe place to learn, play, and develop.

QUALIFICATION/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience in cleaning and minor repairs to buildings and grounds preferred.
• Must maintain up to date training and certification.
• Demonstrates job responsibility, regular attendance and punctuality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times. Keeps grounds free from rubbish, cuts grass, and trims trees as needed.
• Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
• Shovels, plows, and sands the walkways, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
• Daily checks to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
• Sweeps, dusts, arranges furniture, and empties trash. Washes walls, woodwork, windows and cleans and polishes metal surfaces. Cleans, wet mops, and maintains hard and soft surface floors. Cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes restrooms and lockers.
• Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day if required.
• Performs minor repair maintenance. Reports major repairs needed to head custodian and principal.
• Moves furniture or equipment within the buildings as required for various activities and as directed.
• Responsible for opening and closing the building each school day. Before leaving, ensures all doors and windows are secured, all lights off, except those left on for security reasons.
• Remains on school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Food Service functions, cooking, food prep etc

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

• Reports damage/vandalism of school property to principal.
• Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
• Complies with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
• Participates in inservice training/workshops/programs as requested.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing and walking. Repetitive motion with wrists, hands and fingers. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting and stooping. Occasional climbing and crawling.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
