Job summary

Charlotte County Public Schools in Punta Gorda, FL is seeking a Custodian to participate in cleaning and minor repairs to maintain a safe school environment. The role supports students, staff and visitors, following established procedures and safety rules.

The starting pay is $17.50 per hour with full-time benefits, including an on-site Wellness Center and health plan options. High school diploma or equivalent and ability to work with others are required.

Responsibilities

• Participates in general cleaning and general maintenance of the facility.

• Dusts and cleans furniture; vacuums and mops floors as per standards.
• Cleans windows, sinks, toilets, boards and other areas; moves furniture when needed.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the materials, methods, equipment and practices used in cleaning and minor repair operations

Preferred Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Performance Responsibilities:

• Participates in the general cleaning and general maintenance of the facility.
• Makes minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment as prescribed by the Custodial Crew Leader/administrator.
• Follows procedures, prescribed by the building administrator, for routine security and safety for the students, staff, and visitors to the facility.
• Reports maintenance/repair needs to Custodial Crew Leader /Administrator.
• Collects and disposes of refuse; facilitates others’ daily disposal of recyclable materials.
• Dusts and cleans furniture.
• Vacuums, dry mops, sweeps, wet mops, strips, waxes and polishes floors in accordance with SREF standards.
• Cleans and washes windows, mirrors, walls, (chalk) / white boards, desks, sinks, toilets, and other soiled areas.
• Moves, with others, furniture or equipment within the work location when proper and safe moving equipment is available.
• Keeps areas such as walks, driveways, playground areas, etc. clean.
• Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent lamps/other lighting devices, and soiled ceiling tiles, when needed.
• Sets up and cleans facility after community usage of facility.
• Communicates with (Custodial Crew Leader) in maintaining a proper inventory of equipment, supplies, and other necessary, job‑related items.
• Attends job‑related workshops and training programs.
• Assembles furniture and equipment.
• Works additional hours upon reasonable request.
• Maintains an effective working relationship with students, other employees, and visitors to the facility.
• Performs other job‑related functions as may be assigned by the building administrator.
