Job summary

The City of New Berlin is hiring a flexible Custodian to perform routine indoor and outdoor custodial maintenance for municipal buildings and grounds. You will clean floors, windows, restrooms, and furniture, and assist with setup for meetings and events.

You will also maintain cleaning supplies, operate power cleaning equipment safely, lift up to 50 pounds, and use the city’s work request system. A high school diploma or GED is required, with prior maintenance experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in general maintenance and floor/carpet care preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Capable of standing and walking for long periods.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication, including email.
• Familiarity with computer/tablet-based work request systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine custodial tasks in municipal buildings and grounds.
• Clean floors, carpets, walls, windows, and upholstery; wash walls as needed.
• Clean restrooms; remove trash and recyclables; restock supplies.
• Maintain and replenish cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Move furniture and set up meeting rooms for events.
• Assist the maintenance supervisor and technician as needed.
• Perform minor plumbing tasks and lighting as required.
• Remove snow and apply salt to walkways.
• Follow safety procedures while using power cleaning equipment.

Provides routine indoor and outdoor custodial maintenance services for various assigned municipal buildings and grounds.

• Performs general custodial maintenance of municipal buildings including wall, ceiling, and window washing, upholstery cleaning, dusting, and painting.
• Cleans and maintains floors including carpeting, tile, and concrete.
• Cleans restrooms.
• Removes trash and recyclables.
• Maintains and replenishes cleaning and related supplies and equipment.
• Assists maintenance supervisor and maintenance technician as needed.
• Moves furniture and sets up meeting rooms.
• Performs minor plumbing tasks as required.
• Removes snow and salts walkways.
• Replaces light bulbs when needed.
• Performs other duties as necessary to maintain a properly presentable facility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Sufficient strength and dexterity to operate power cleaning equipment safely.
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
• Ability to bend and stoop frequently.
