Job summary

Hancock School in Coastal Maine is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Custodian to join their team. This year-round, full-time position offers an afternoon/evening shift and a competitive hourly rate based on experience.

The role focuses on keeping the school clean, safe and welcoming for students, staff and visitors, with responsibilities spanning janitorial tasks, basic maintenance, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred, but not required.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and supplies.
• Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and equipment operations.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the school buildings in a clean and orderly condition.
• Perform heavy cleaning duties such as: Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
• Shampooing rugs and carpets.
• Washing walls, windows, and glass surfaces.
• Removing trash and recycling materials.
• Monitor and maintain heating systems, including furnace and boiler operation.
• Perform minor maintenance concerns or necessary repairs.
• Notify management of larger maintenance concerns or necessary repairs.
• Clear snow and debris from sidewalks and school safety and sanitation policies.
• Ensure compliance with school safety and sanitation policies.
• May be required to work evenings, early mornings, weekends, and occasional overtime as needed.
