Job summary

Kenilworth Public Schools seeks a full-time Custodian/Maintenance professional for the 2026-27 school year, districtwide. The role requires skilled work in facility maintenance, safety, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and related trades.

The position includes a 12-month term, a $40,500 base rate subject to contract steps, and a comprehensive benefits package. Strong independent work and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• 1. Valid New Jersey Black Seal Low-Pressure Boiler Operator's License required.
• 2. Working knowledge and demonstrated experience in building maintenance and repair, including HVAC systems (automated and mechanical), carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
• 3. Ability to read, write, understand instructions, and communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and vendors.
• 4. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position and successfully complete any required pre-employment physical examination.
• 5. Minimum of three (3) years of custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience in a school or similar institutional setting preferred.
• 6. Relevant trade certifications and/or current professional licenses are preferred and will be recognized.
• 7. Knowledge of applicable workplace and school safety procedures, including Hazard Communication/Right- to-Know, silica exposure, asbestos awareness/AHERA, bloodborne pathogens, chemical safety, indoor air quality, and integrated pest management.
• 8. Working knowledge of fire safety systems, equipment, and related operating procedures.
• 9. Experience with snow and ice removal, including the safe operation of applicable equipment.
• 10. Ability to safely operate custodial and maintenance tools, machinery, and equipment associated with the position.
• 11. Ability to work independently and collaboratively and to respond appropriately to routine maintenance needs and emergency situations.
• 13. A required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds

TERMS: 12-month position. Step 0�1 rate per the contract: $40,500, or other rate commensurate with experience. Full benefits package included.
