Job summary

NNCTC facility in Huntsville, Alabama seeks a Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment across offices, workstations, restrooms, breakrooms, conference areas, lobbies, and common spaces.

Shifts run Monday through Friday: first 6am–2pm and second 1pm–9pm. The role requires adherence to cleaning standards, inventory control, waste management, and safe operation of custodial equipment. Background clearance may be required for access to the facility.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting federal, military, government, or secure facilities.
• Experience performing carpet extraction, floor waxing, and floor buffing services.
• Experience managing custodial inventory and supply ordering processes.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily vacuuming of all carpeted areas and mats and mop tile flooring at the beginning of each shift.
• Clean and sanitize breakrooms, including countertops, cabinets, sinks, tables, chairs, microwaves, windows, and other touch surfaces.
• Empty and dispose of trash and recycling from all assigned areas.
• Clean, disinfect, and restock four restrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, dispensers, partitions, counters, and floors.
• Replenish restroom and breakroom consumables, including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, sanitizer, and related hygiene supplies.
• Clean and maintain offices and workstations by emptying trash, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and cleaning doors and windows.

Job description

Custodial support is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and professional work environment at the NNCTC facility in Huntsville, Alabama. Personnel perform daily custodial services across offices, workstations, restrooms, breakrooms, conference areas, lobbies, and common spaces. The position requires adherence to established cleaning standards, inventory management of custodial supplies, waste management, and periodic floor and carpet maintenance. The Custodian is responsible for ensuring all assigned areas are cleaned, sanitized, stocked, and maintained in a manner that supports a professional workplace environment.

Shifts will be during normal business hours Monday through Friday. First shift will be 6am-2pm and the second shift will be from 1pm to 9pm.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform daily vacuuming of all carpeted areas and mats and mop tile flooring at the beginning of each shift.
• Clean and sanitize breakrooms, including countertops, cabinets, sinks, tables, chairs, microwaves, windows, and other touch surfaces.
• Empty and dispose of trash and recycling from all assigned areas.
• Clean, disinfect, and restock four restrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, dispensers, partitions, counters, and floors.
• Replenish restroom and breakroom consumables, including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, sanitizer, and related hygiene supplies.
• Clean and maintain offices and workstations by emptying trash, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and cleaning doors and windows.
• Clean conference rooms, lobby areas, hallways, and building egress routes, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing high-touch surfaces.
• Collect and transport refuse from all work areas and place waste in designated dumpsters.
• Monitor custodial supply inventories and submit replenishment orders to approved vendors as needed.
• Maintain and properly store custodial equipment and cleaning materials.
• Provide floor care services, including buffing, waxing, and maintaining floor finishes.
• Perform carpet cleaning and shampooing services utilizing approved cleaning methods and equipment.
• Ensure all cleaning activities meet established quality standards for dusting, glass cleaning, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, sanitation, and general facility appearance.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively while complying with workplace safety requirements.
• Support special cleaning projects and periodic deep-cleaning efforts conducted during non-business hours.
• Maintain professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail while working independently with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Ability to obtain and maintain an ATF background security clearance.
• Physically able to perform all duties under this contract.
• Maintain professional etiquette and appearance while on duty.
• Maintain high attendance and promptness when reporting for duty.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

• Previous experience supporting federal, military, government, or secure facilities.
• Experience performing carpet extraction, floor waxing, and floor buffing services.
• Experience managing custodial inventory and supply ordering processes.
• Experience performing commercial, custodial, or janitorial services.
• Ability to safely operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, buffers, carpet cleaners, and floor maintenance equipment.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, sanitation procedures, and workplace safety practices.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move custodial supplies and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high cleanliness standards.
• Ability to work assigned shifts and perform routine physical activities, including walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to pass any required background investigation necessary to access the facility.
