Job summary

Furman University is seeking a Custodian to maintain cleanliness across campus buildings (excluding dining and residence halls). The role involves interior and exterior cleaning, including floors, restrooms, windows, and entrances within 20 feet of buildings.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; 1–2 years in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain appearance by cleaning and performing tasks such as waxing, buffing, dusting, sweeping, mopping or vacuuming floors and stairs.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms; ensure supplies are provided.
• Clean glass doors, mirrors, windows, furniture, vents, baseboards and blinds; dust as needed.
• Assist in setup and breakdown for meetings or events.
• Coordinate work schedules with the building coordinator and occupants.
• Inspect for unsafe conditions and notify supervisor if needed.
• Maintain custodial storage rooms and equipment; follow cleaning procedures.
• Move furniture as needed to complete cleaning tasks and follow safety procedures.

Maintains the overall appearance by:* Waxing, buffing, dusting, sweeping and mopping or vacuuming floors and stairs.* Cleaning and disinfecting showers, sinks, drains, and grout in restroom and ensuring supplies are provided.* Cleaning glass doors, mirrors and windows, furniture, vents, baseboard in hallways and kitchens, partitions and displays.* Dusting.* Cleaning/dusting venetian blinds.* Cleaning and polishing brass.* Cleaning water fountains.* Cleaning out sand urns.* Emptying and washing trash cans.* Emptying recycling bins.* Cleaning exterior area (20 feet) by blowing/sweeping walkways, picking up trash, and washing windows.* Cleaning kitchen areas as needed.* Cleaning up spills.* Pressure washing walks, buildings as assigned.* Loading trash into dumpsters.* Cleaning light fixtures/chandeliers, vents.2.
