Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated Custodian to perform routine cleaning and general maintenance across assigned areas to meet staff and client needs.

Responsibilities include cleaning surfaces, vacuuming, sanitizing restrooms, maintaining kitchens, and assisting with space setup and repairs as needed. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, with janitorial experience welcome.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED preferred or equivalent experience.
• Janitorial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean and dust all surfaces including windows, doors, desks, shelves, and cabinets.
• Vacuum carpets thoroughly and shampoo as needed.
• Care for hard surfaces: tile, counters, drinking fountains; buffing and disinfecting.
• Spot clean walls, switches, and doors.
• Sanitize restrooms and maintain cleanliness of kitchens and appliances.
• Empty trash and recyclables and replace liners.
• Assist with program space setup and arrange furniture.
• Report maintenance repairs and organize cleaning supplies.
• Maintain outdoor areas and assist with building repairs as needed.

Position Summary:

The Custodian performs routine and general cleaning, maintaining assigned area(s) to meet staff, clients, and customer satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Clean and dust all horizontal and vertical surfaces including windows, doors, desks, shelves, intake vents, tables, chairs, and cabinets
• Maintain clean carpets by detailed vacuuming, spot removal and shampooing
• Perform hard surface care for tile, concrete, tabletops, drinking fountains, and counters including buffing, sweeping, washing, polishing, spot removal and disinfecting.
• Perform spot cleaning for walls, light switches, and doors as needed
• Service and sanitize restrooms by cleaning floors, bathtubs, showers, sinks, urinals, toilets, and mirrors
• Ensure cleanliness of kitchen counters, sinks, appliances, and floors
• Empty trash and recycle receptacles; replace liners as needed
• Assist with program space set up as directed (tables, chairs, etc.)
• Monitor and report maintenance repairs
• Organize cleaning supplies
• Maintain outdoor property as needed
• Assist with building repairs as needed, such as painting, moving furniture or plumbing
• Clean and maintain grease trap monthly and reporting the findings to the officers (if applicable)
• Perform other duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities:

• Driving donations to the thrift store

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma / GED preferred or, any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Janitorial experience preferred

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

• Maintains confidentiality

Computer Skills:

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (preferred)
• Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint (preferred)
• Willingness to learn new software as needed

Certificates and Licenses:

• Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
• Must have and maintain a current valid driver’s license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
