Building Custodian - Starting January 2027
Position Goal
To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

Reports to
Head of Building Maintenance

Education &/or Experience
High school diploma.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Cooperates with and works in a courteous manner with coworkers and other personnel.
• Maintains presence in the assigned building at all times except when custodial responsibilities require assistance in other areas. Notify your building office when it is necessary to be out of the building.
• Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
• Checks the building heating/cooling system at least twice a day to ensure that it is working properly when in use. Reports problems to the district maintenance department promptly.
• Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition. Reports problems to the district maintenance department promptly.
• Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
• Assumes responsibilities for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. Understands the security system in your building.
• Raises the United States flag before school each day, and lowers it after school daily unless a light is shining on it regularly.
