Amherst College invites applications for the Custodian position. The Custodian is a full-time, year-round role, starting at $19.35 per hour. The Custodian supports custodial services to maintain safe, clean, and sanitary conditions campus-wide, and participates in creating an inclusive and respectful work environment.

Work schedule: The position provides essential services and may require reporting to work or remaining on duty during College closures. Flexibility for extended shifts is often necessary, generally Monday through Friday, but hours may vary based on operational needs.

Responsibilities include:

• Performing custodial work to maintain cleanliness and safety in buildings and grounds, following established routines and safety standards.
• Maintaining a clean and orderly workspace, managing waste, and ensuring environmental health standards.
• Collaborating with diverse colleagues to foster an inclusive climate.
• Project work such as floor finishing, carpet extraction, wall and glass washing, snow removal, and supporting recycling programs.
• Troubleshooting and repairing cleaning equipment and minor building issues.
• Supporting campus events and providing general event support services.
• Monitoring and reporting maintenance issues, managing supplies, conserving energy, and coordinating with residential and academic staff.

Qualifications:

• Valid driver’s license and credentialing for college vehicle operation.
• Basic math, computer, customer service, organizational, and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to inclusivity and respect.
• Successful background check, physical and lift test completion.
