Job summary

UAH College of Business in Alabama is seeking a Custodian to join the Facilities & Operations team. The position is full-time, second shift (2:00 PM - 10:45 PM) with a $1.50 per hour shift differential.

Responsibilities include cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, classrooms, offices and common areas, organizing storage, and providing excellent customer service to university constituents while following safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• Physically able to operate all custodial equipment.
• Prior janitorial experience is desired.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect restrooms, classrooms, offices, common areas, entrances and vestibules, elevators and stairwells, and/or other areas as assigned.
• Inspect and evaluate assigned cleaning areas, and perform cleaning tasks until areas are clean
• Empty all trash and recycling receptacles.
• Clean and secure equipment, tools, and other supplies when not in use to ensure maximum usage.
• Organize and maintain clean and safe custodial storage areas at all times.
• Provide excellent customer service to all university constituents by greeting individuals, communicating area closures, addressing concerns to management.
• Follow current industry safety standards and guidelines.
• Wear PPE as trained and operate equipment following proper procedures.

Purpose Of The Position

The Custodian is a key member of the UAH Facilities & Operations department, which is responsible for the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of the University. As a Custodian, the employee's primary responsibility is to maintain the cleanliness of the University's buildings. The employee’s duties will be performed full-time within the second shift (2:00 PM - 10:45 PM). This shift is eligible for a $1.50 an hour shift differential.

Duties / Responsibilities

• Empty all trash and recycling receptacles.
• Clean and secure equipment, tools, and other supplies when not in use to ensure maximum usage.
• Organize and maintain clean and safe custodial storage areas at all times.
• Provide excellent customer service to all university constituents by greeting individuals, properly communicating area closures, addressing their concerns to management as soon as they are brought to your attention, and showing respect to others at all times.
• Follow current industry safety standards and guidelines.
• Wear personal protective equipment as trained and operate equipment following proper operational procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• It is essential that the employee be physically able and capable of operating all equipment.

Desired Qualifications

• Prior janitorial experience is desired.
