Job summary

Aitkin Public Schools ISD 1 is seeking a full-time Custodian to care for and clean school buildings and grounds. The role involves a flexible schedule with occasional weekends and reports to the Building and Grounds Supervisor/Lead Custodian.

Essential duties include floor care, trash removal, restroom sanitation, inventorying supplies, lawn and snow maintenance, and moving furniture. Safety trainings and a Minnesota driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Willingness to obtain 2C Boiler License within 1 year.
• Must complete required safety trainings/certifications, including hazardous waste right-to-know, blood borne pathogens, confined spaces, and lockout/tag out within one year.
• Valid Minnesota driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, vacuum, buff, strip floors, wax, and dust mop assigned areas.
• Remove trash from rooms and buildings.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, including mirrors, washbasins, urinals, commodes, and mop sinks.
• Refill tissue, towel, and soap dispensers.
• Mow, trim, and maintain lawns.
• Remove snow from grounds, sidewalks, and parking lots.
• Dust furniture, walls, window sills, blinds, and woodwork.
• Move furniture as needed.
• Open and close facilities and monitor alarm systems to ensure building safety and security.
• Assist with facility, grounds, and equipment maintenance and repairs.

The Custodian performs intermediate manual work caring for and cleaning school buildings and grounds, and related work as assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Building and Grounds Supervisor and Lead Custodian.

Starting pay: $17.44/hour or higher depending on experience
