You may shovel, move furniture, and work under general supervision; must lift 40 lbs and lead a small team. Monday–Friday 6:30a–3:00p; salary $15.70–$19.03 per hour.

Job Description Opening Date: September 16, 2026 Closing Date: September 30, 2026 Job Class Code: 1012 Grade: 7 Salary: $15.70 - $19.03* Shift: Monday - Friday 6:30a - 3:00p ** This is inclusive of stipends. Currently, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions


Responsibilities

This is maintenance and personal services work involving minor supervisory duties in the custodial care of buildings and grounds of a mental health hospital. Work includes cleaning residential and ground areas including bedrooms, dayrooms, dining areas, bathrooms, corridors, and program areas. Additional responsibilities include shoveling, moving furniture, Worl requires considerable physical effort and exposure to abnormal human behavior. Work is performed under general supervision.


Representative tasks: Leads a small number of other employees and participates in the routine cleaning of buildings and the care of surrounding grounds in order to maintain building cleanliness.

Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is a 69-bed psychiatric hospital serving the entire State of Maine that provides services for people with severe mental illness. As a member of a statewide community of care givers, DDPC collaborates with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, their community and personal supports, to provide recovery-oriented, respectful, compassionate, and effective psychiatric care and treatment in the least restrictive, safest, and most therapeutic environment we can create. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is dedicated to promoting health, safety, resilience, and opportunity for Maine people. The Department provides health and social services to approximately a third of the State's population, including children, families, older Mainers, and individuals with disabilities, mental illness, and substance use disorders. The Department also promotes public health, operates two state psychiatric hospitals, and provides oversight to health care providers.
