• Move and arrange furniture and equipment for cleaning and events.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment like buffers and floor scrubbers.
• Support grounds-keeping activities including snow removal or lawn care when required.
• Report maintenance needs to supervisor for action.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

A Custodial Worker I performs routine cleaning and semi-skilled maintenance tasks and is responsible for the efficient and economical cleaning and maintenance of a school building or an assigned section. Duties typically include:

• Performing a variety of cleaning tasks (e.g., sweeping, mopping, waxing, vacuuming floors; dusting and polishing furniture; cleaning walls, restrooms, and fixtures).
• Making minor, non-technical repairs to building and equipment.
• Moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
• Operating and maintaining building cleaning equipment (e.g., buffers, floor scrubbers).
• Performing general grounds-keeping tasks such as snow removal or lawn care as needed.
• Reporting maintenance needs or concerns to a supervisor.
