Job summary

Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance (DZCA) is seeking a Custodial Technician to maintain a clean, welcoming environment across offices and facilities. The role supports guest experience and staff health through daily cleaning and safety practices.

The position requires 1–2 years of custodian experience, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and willingness to work a variable schedule, including early hours and some holidays. Salary is hourly with competitive benefits, on-campus work location.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience as a custodian/janitor or similar role preferred.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions for a safe work environment.
• Ability to follow DZCA safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning tasks including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and trash disposal.
• Disinfect high-use areas daily (restrooms, kitchens) and maintain cleanliness across Zoo facilities.
• Clean biohazard waste using proper PPE.
• Pick up litter and debris throughout the Zoo.
• Be available for on-call snow removal and variable schedules including early hours and weekends.
• Operate light equipment for projects and report maintenance concerns.

Custodial Technician is key in maintaining a clean, welcoming environment throughout the Zoo. Responsibilities include daily tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, polishing floors, and emptying waste bins across offices, public areas, and facilities. This position helps ensure a comfortable guest experience and a healthy workplace for staff, supporting our mission of inspiring communities to save wildlife for future generations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform daily tasks that include cleaning and sanitizing all assigned cleanable surfaces, including but not limited to vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, polishing floor surfacing, and emptying waste for offices and facilities daily.
• Properly disinfect and clean high-use areas daily, including but not limited to restrooms and kitchens. And various surface areas throughout the Zoo grounds, including indoor and outdoor areas.
• Clean biohazard waste using the proper PPE.
• Pick up litter and debris throughout the zoo.
• Participate in snow removal operations and are available to work a variable schedule, including early hours, weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays, in an on-call status for snow removal.
• Operate light equipment used for minor and major projects.
• Adheres to established procedures to provide a safe working environment.
• Properly cleans and maintains equipment.
• Follows procedures for storage and disposal of trash and transports it to designated areas.
• Reports maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Properly secure all doors within the assigned area.
• Replenish disposable products such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.

Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience as a custodian/ janitor or a similar role is preferred.
• Working knowledge of industry equipment and how to maintain facilities.
• Possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Skill in understanding and following oral, illustrated, written, or demonstrated instructions.
• Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment for self and others.
• Ability to follow all DZCA safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Position Conditions

• Ability to pass a physical examination, background check, and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work Location: On campus

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $19.30 -$20.52 (hourly).
