Responsibilities

• Supervise second shift custodial staff and contracted staff as needed.
• Oversee building opening: lights on, alarm off.
• Maintain clean, safe environments in classrooms, hallways, lunchroom, and restrooms.
• Report and coordinate repairs as directed by supervisor.
• Oversee receipt of equipment and supplies; sign delivery slips.
• Clean windows, walls, floors, desks; manage litter and waste.
• Control building temperature appropriate to season.
• Ensure gates, curtains, and windows are secured; lights off; alarm set at day end.
• Manage snow and ice removal; apply sand/non-slip material as needed.
• Maintain lawns and plants; perform other duties as assigned.

Purpose

Essential Job Duties/Functions

• Provides supervisory duties over second shift custodial staff and contracted staff as needed.
• Oversee the opening of the building, which includes turning on lights, turning off alarm.
• Oversee the general condition of the buildings and grounds, including the lunchroom and bathrooms, ensuring a safe, orderly, sanitary environment.
• Ensure any improvements/repairs needed are reported promptly and/or perform minor repairs upon the direction of the Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds.
• Oversee the ordering and receiving of equipment or materials/supplies, signing all delivery slips.
• Responsible for washing all windows, walls, chalkboards, and woodwork; scrubbing floors; removing trash; polishing desks; painting and varnishing where necessary; and cleaning all yards.
• Ensure the temperature of the building is kept at a sufficient degree, properly heated during the winter and properly cooled during the summer.
• Maintain classrooms and corridors, ensuring they are cleaned and dusted daily.
• Ensure gates, curtains, and windows are closed and locked at the end-of-the-day, lights are turned off, and alarm is set.
• Ensure walkways are swept and kept free of ice and snow during inclement weather, applying sand or non-slip material as needed.
• Maintain, and properly care for, lawn, shrubbery, and plants.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds, Director of Buildings and Grounds, CFOO, and/or Superintendent of Schools.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years experience in custodial services required
• High School diploma or equivalency required
• Other education/experience as accepted by the school board and administration
