Job summary

The City of Abilene is seeking a Custodial Supervisor to assist the Custodial Division Manager in overseeing routine custodial activities and staff. You will train new employees, coordinate work duties and schedules, and serve as safety coordinator.

You will supervise custodial staff and crew chiefs, ensure coverage during vacations or illness, inspect work areas, conduct safety meetings, and assist with budget development for the division.

Qualifications

• Two years custodial experience with at least one year in a supervisory role.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, crouch, stoop, lift up to 40 pounds, and travel to job sites.

General Description

Under the supervision of the Custodial Division Manager, to help oversee and supervise routine custodial activities and staff. This position is responsible for training new employees; coordinating work duties and schedules; and also serves as safety coordinator.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position exercises supervision over custodial staff and crew chiefs.

Important And Essential Duties

• Oversee custodial work and crew chiefs, maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.


• Ensure all positions are covered during vacations or illnesses.


• Responsible for the Custodial Services Division in the absence of the Custodial Services Manager.


• Evaluate performance of custodial staff and provide recommendations to Custodial Services Manager and assist with disciplinary action.


• Routinely inspect all custodial work areas and address any complaints or concerns.


• Conduct safety meetings.


• Coordinate and oversee crew with stripping and waxing duties.


• Assist with the division equipment replacement and maintenance process.


• Assist with the development of the Custodial Services Department budget; to include equipment, materials and supplies.

• Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge Of

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Occupational Hazards and safety precautions of custodial operations and proper use and care of a variety of tools, materials, and equipment common to custodial operations.

• Mail courier services operations.

Skill To

• Operate all custodial equipment including vacuum cleaner, carpet machine, floor scrubber and buffer.


• Operate a postage machine.


• Basic computer skills.


• Provide exemplary customer service to internal and external customers in all circumstances and potentially stressful situations.

Experience And Training Guidelines

Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:

Experience

• Two (2) years of custodial service experience with one (1) year supervisory experience.

Education/Training

• A high school diploma or GED is required.

License Or Certificate

• A valid Texas driver’s license; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days, or a military waiver is required.
