Qualifications

  • Hold a Black Seal Fireman's License or meet requirements within one year.
  • Minimum of two years of custodial experience (preferred).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid New Jersey Driver's License.
  • Demonstrate integrity and good character.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals.
  • Proficient in reading/writing/speaking English.
  • Ability to use electronic equipment for work processing, data management, information retrieval, presentations and telecommunications.
  • Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status (I-9).
  • Evidence of clearance of criminal record history by the Department of Education.
  • Health clearance to fulfill job functions with reasonable accommodation.
  • Pass Mantoux TB test as required.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend supplies, materials, and equipment for the custodial program and maintain inventory.
  • Coordinate coverage of building events for school custodial staff.
  • Monitor records of all custodial employees.
  • Maintain inventory and recommend purchases of supplies and equipment.
  • Promote safety, health, and comfort of students and employees.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional conduct with students, staff, and external agencies.
  • Serve as a role model for staff in appearance, attitude, and work ethic.
  • Participate in in-service and required meetings.

  • Adhere to laws, regulations, and board policies.

Job description

ELEMENTARY CUSTODIAL COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Operations

Nature And Scope Of Job

To oversee custodial operations and building custodial staff, to ensure an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff, and public at district facilities; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; and minimizing property damage, loss, and liability exposure.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold a Black Seal Fireman's License or shall meet requirements to obtain this license within one year of the date of employment.
  • Preferred to have a minimum of two (2) years of experience.
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid N.J. Driver's License.
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work well with others and with a wide diversity of individuals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and/or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for work processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
  • Provide evidence of clearance of a criminal record history check by the Department of Education.
  • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
  • Pass the state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
  • Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications, as the Superintendent may deem appropriate, acceptable, and legal.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recommend, for purchase, supplies, materials, and equipment needed for the custodial program and maintain an adequate inventory.
  • Coordinate coverage of building events for school custodial staff.
  • Monitor the records of all custodial employees in the school.
  • Maintain an inventory and recommend purchase of suitable supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Strive constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of the students and employees.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  • Serve as a role model for staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic.
  • Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
  • Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.
  • Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New Jersey school law, construction codes, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the Supervisor of Operations and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  • Keep track of supplies and inventory and distribute as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Assess and report needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Inspect, analyze, and determine the cleaning work to be done and materials needed.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
  • Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
  • Ability to work effectively under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities.
  • Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment.
  • Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.
EVALUATION:

The building principal and/or Director of Facilities shall evaluate the Elementary Custodial Coordinator in accordance with this job description, and such other criteria as shall be established by the Board of Education.
