Job summary

SSA Group is seeking a Custodial Associate at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak, MI. The role supports daily cleaning and special events, ensuring a clean, welcoming environment for guests during Zoo Boo and Wild Lights.

You will operate custodial equipment, follow sanitation standards, and work with the Environmental Services team to keep restrooms and facilities spotless. No prior experience required; all education backgrounds eligible.

Position Title: Custodial Associate

Reports to: Custodial Supervisor (if applicable) and/or Environmental Services Manager

Responsibilities

• Live out 452 Hospitality by delivering warm, welcoming, and memorable experiences for every guest and client.
• The custodial/environmental services team member ensures the cleaning services for unique, exceptional, or specialized custodial services, and monitors the quality of cleaning services.
• Follows directions and establishes routines in the proper use of materials and supplies.
• Accountable for all phases of services performed in the custodial services department including providing a litter-free appearance to offices and facilities.
• Adheres to steps of operation in cleanliness, sanitation and overall presentation of restrooms and facilities, through daily and consistent cleaning rounds.
• Supports daily upkeep and cleanliness through grounds maintenance.
• Vacuums, sweeps, mops, scrubs, polish and waxes floor coverings
• Dusts, cleans and empty trash to offices and facilities.
• Cleans and stocks restrooms and is responsible for building sanitation
• Accountable for all phases of services performed in the custodial department.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Promote a positive attitude among teammates.
• Perform other tasks as deemed necessary.
• Responsibly geared towards presenting a clean and welcome experience for guests through upholding sanitation requirements.

Job Requirements

• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
• Exceptional problem solving/decision making skills combined with the ability to be organized.
• Demonstrates the ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced environment.
• Ideal candidate is a team player, personable, professional, upbeat and energetic, and takes initiative; with a sense of urgency to accomplish the goals at hand.
• Displays a strong interest in the custodial or environmental services field.
• Physical ability to work in squatting, kneeling and standing positions for extended periods and to move and handle boxes (35-50lbs) as necessary to operation, which entails lifting, and perform all functions as set forth above.

Compensation and Benefits

• Eligible for overtime pay.

• Holiday pay of 1.5× the regular rate is provided for hours worked on Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day .

Colorado: Employees accrue 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked , up to 48 hours per year , under the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA).
