Job summary

The University of Kansas invites qualified professionals to join a part-time, temporary Instructor pool in the Department of Curriculum & Teaching. The role involves teaching a variety of courses at undergraduate and master’s levels.

Work assignments will vary by position and are reviewed as needs arise. The position is a 100% instructional role, not tenure-track, for the Summer 2026 semester with renewal based on unit needs, funding and performance.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Curriculum & Instruction or related subject area is required to teach graduate level courses.
  • Applicants must be available during the regular K-12 work day.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one or more sections of courses in areas such as Curriculum Development, Instructional Strategies, English Education, Foreign Language Education, Literacy/Reading Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Social Studies Education, Teaching English as a Second Language, and Gifted Education.
  • Develop course materials, syllabi, lectures and assignments; grade student work; advise students and hold office hours.
  • Collaborate with colleagues; stay current in the field; adhere to departmental and university policies.

100% Instructional Duties:

  • As an instructor for the university, primary duties and responsibilities include: teaching in a specific field, developing course materials, developing and managing syllabi, creating lectures and assignments, grading student work, advising students and holding office hours.
  • All instructors are expected to collaborate with colleagues, be current in the field, and are required to adhere to departmental, school/college and university polices and procedures.
  • Teach one or more sections of courses in areas such as Curriculum Development, Instructional Strategies, English Education, Foreign Language Education, Literacy/Reading Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Social Studies Education, Teaching English as a Second Language, and Gifted Education.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Position Overview

The University of Kansas, Department of Curriculum & Teaching invites qualified professionals for a part-time, Temporary Instructor pool. This position will teach a variety of courses offered by the department at the undergraduate and master’s level programs. Amount of work required can vary by position and will range in FTE. Applicants will be reviewed and considered for teaching positions as needs arise. Applications will be accepted throughout the year. The Instructor is an instructional, adjunct faculty position that is not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. This is a term appointment for the [Summer 2026] semester. Renewal will be based upon unit needs and funding as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters. The Instructor is a union covered position within the collective bargaining unit represented by United Academics of Kansas University (UAKU). UAKU is the exclusive bargaining representative for the bargaining unit. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.
