Chesterfield County Public Schools seeks a High School Mathematics Curriculum Specialist to facilitate curriculum development and implement effective instruction across the district. The role involves assessing student performance, coordinating with educators, and leading professional development initiatives. This position requires a Virginia teaching license, experience in mathematics education, and strong leadership skills.
The High School Mathematics Curriculum Specialist is responsible for leading, facilitating, developing, implementing, and monitoring curriculum and instruction for High School Mathematics throughout Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS). Complex work is performed within specific regulations, departmental objectives, and division policies; employee plans own work and coordinates with others as necessary. Contacts are regularly and frequently made at all organizational levels within and outside the division to explain and implement programs and policies; professional judgment is required. This position provides leadership for the High School Mathematics Program through planning professional development opportunities, coordinating and managing school and community events, and leading and facilitating curriculum and instruction by monitoring and guiding program direction to support teachers, administrators, and families.
Essential Job Functions:
Facilitates curriculum development for High School Mathematics; coordinates the proposed curriculum through the approval process; Provides assistance and direction, and monitors curriculum program implementation throughout the division
Manages and monitors online curriculum documents; Develops guidelines for program and material implementation; Aligns curricular materials, technology, and assessments with departmental goals and objectives; Analyzes standards and designs instruction and assessments aligned with standards
Uses assessment data to make instructional decisions related to curriculum and instruction; Recommends and implements improvements to curriculum, instruction, and assessment based on ongoing analysis of results
Works in collaboration with the Elementary and Middle School Mathematics Curriculum Specialists to facilitate vertical planning and alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
Reviews and identifies instructional materials; Manages adoption of new instructional materials in accordance with division guidelines and procedures; Provides staff development opportunities for teachers and administrators based upon approved instructional materials and resources in alignment with the Virginia Standards of Learning
Provides professional learning opportunities for teachers and administrators on a variety of topics, including using instructional materials and resources in alignment with Virginia Mathematics Standards of Learning; Provides orientation on instructional resources for newly-appointed teachers; Recommends subject area professional development for administrators and teachers; Recommends licensure renewal opportunities
Visits classrooms for teaching support and consultation; Monitors instructional programs in schools; Conducts routine evaluations of the effectiveness of High School Mathematics instructional programs; Provides communication to teachers; Maintains CCPS Portal site for High School Mathematics
Serves as liaison to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and other professional educational organizations on matters related to High School Mathematics; Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations and accreditation standards
Assists with planning summer school courses, and provides support with appropriate digital resources
Assists in the development of the budget and the monitoring of expenditures; Ensures compliance with financial management guidelines and requirements
Uses evidence of student learning to inform instructional decisions related to curriculum and instruction; Monitors and assesses student, teacher, school, and system performance; Disaggregates data to provide ongoing assessment of student performance
Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence
May perform other duties as assigned
Budgetary Responsibility:
This position is responsible for the management of budgets for designated programs.
Report Preparation:
This position may be responsible for various reports related to the position, as requested by Supervisor or division leadership.
Equipment Operation:
Proficiency in the use of computer and general office equipment is required.
Contacts:
This position has frequent contact with all levels of CCPS personnel, as well as various outside agencies.
Work Direction/Supervision:
This position may provide work direction, as applicable, during visits and observations of high school mathematics teachers. This position does not have any direct reports.
Decision Making:
This position requires a high level of independent decision-making.
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:
This position mayprovide input or recommendations related to policy changes, as requested by Supervisor.

Work Environment:

Considerable knowledge of the concepts, principles, and methodologies of High School Mathematics instruction in a public school setting; of current curriculum development, program implementation, and planning in High School Mathematics; of learning theory, recent research, school organization, supervision, and available state and local resources; of child growth and development and group dynamics; and of related state and federal regulations. Considerable knowledge of the budget process, fiscal management, and the securing of special funding sources for specified instructional areas. Working skill in the use of technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google WorkSpace preferred). Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulations; to coordinate complex programs and activities; and to provide direction to and evaluate a diversified professional staff. Demonstrated ability to secure, monitor, and evaluate High School Mathematics programs; to develop instructional goals; to design and deliver instruction; and to assess students’ learning. Demonstrated ability to organize, schedule, and monitor work assignments and to train and advise staff. Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management, and research and planning. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Must be eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in 6-12 Mathematics. Must have teaching experience and/or any equivalent experience or training which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for math courses beyond Geometry. Valid VA Driver’s License. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
Preferred:Master’s Degree, with an additional endorsement in Administration and Supervision
