Qualifications

Our World Neighborhood Charter Schools (OWNCS) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Instructional Coach to support high-quality teaching and learning across our school community.

The Instructional Coach is an integral member of the instructional leadership team and works closely with teachers, school leaders, and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to strengthen instructional practices, improve curriculum implementation, and increase student achievement.

This position combines teacher coaching and professional development with curriculum development, assessment, and data analysis. The Instructional Coach will provide teachers with individualized support through classroom observations, feedback, modeling, collaborative planning, and professional learning while also contributing to the development and refinement of curriculum and instructional resources.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished educator who understands excellent classroom instruction, can build strong and trusting relationships with teachers, and can translate student performance data and academic standards into meaningful instructional improvements.

Requirements

Candidates should possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or an area related to the primary instructional responsibility; Master’s degree preferred
  • Valid New York State teaching certification
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated instructional expertise and strong knowledge of effective teaching practices
  • Strong knowledge of K–5 core content, particularly literacy and mathematics
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or providing professional development to teachers
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, map, revise, and implement curriculum
  • Experience using student achievement and assessment data to inform instructional decisions
  • Knowledge of curriculum pacing, scope and sequence, standards alignment, and assessment development
  • Ability to conduct classroom observations and provide clear, actionable, and constructive feedback
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively
  • Proficiency with educational technology, Google Workspace, Microsoft applications, and other instructional platforms
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, instructional leaders, and other members of the school community
  • Commitment to continuous professional learning and the academic success of all students

Summary

The Instructional Coach will support teachers in strengthening instructional practices and improving student outcomes through ongoing coaching, professional development, curriculum support, and data-driven planning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coach and mentor teachers through classroom observations, feedback, modeling, co-planning, and individualized professional development.
  • Utilize the Impact Cycle and other structured coaching practices to establish instructional goals, identify areas for growth, and monitor progress.
  • Collaborate with principals and instructional leaders to develop and implement a shared instructional vision aligned with school and network goals.
  • Analyze student achievement and assessment data to identify instructional needs, learning gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support teachers with lesson planning, curriculum mapping, differentiation, instructional strategies, and effective use of assessment data.
  • Develop, review, and revise curriculum to ensure alignment with academic standards, instructional priorities, student needs, and expected learning outcomes.
  • Develop and refine skill progressions across grade levels to create a clear and intentional progression of student knowledge and skills.
  • Facilitate vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment across grade levels and content areas.
  • Develop and maintain pacing guides, scope and sequences, curriculum resources, assessments, and instructional tools.
  • Create and/or revise formative and summative assessments, rubrics, and other measures of student learning.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum, pacing, assessments, and instructional practices and recommend data-informed improvements.
  • Plan and facilitate professional development, grade-level meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and other instructional learning opportunities.
  • Support teachers in effectively implementing curriculum revisions, instructional expectations, and network-approved resources.
  • Participate as an active member of the school’s instructional leadership team.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, collaboration, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility for student success.
  • Perform other instructional leadership responsibilities consistent with the academic vision and needs of OWNCS.
