Ready to take your teaching experience beyond the classroom?

Are you an educator who loves creating engaging lessons, connecting students to real-world experiences, and bringing agriculture into the classroom?

The California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom (CFAITC) is looking for a creative, organized, and enthusiastic Curriculum Developer to join our team!

This is an opportunity to take your classroom experience in a new direction—developing educational resources used by teachers across California, collaborating with agricultural professionals, and helping students discover the connections between agriculture and their everyday lives.

As a Curriculum Developer, you'll do more than write lessons. You'll bring educational projects to life, working with educators and industry experts to create meaningful, standards-aligned resources that make agriculture relevant and accessible to students in PreK–12 classrooms.

What You'll Do
  • Create engaging curriculum: Develop hands‑on, standards‑aligned lessons, units, activities, and educational resources that connect agriculture to core academic subjects.
  • Own your projects: Independently manage assigned curriculum projects from concept through completion, coordinating timelines, deliverables, budgets, communication, and follow‑up.
  • Collaborate with industry experts: Work with farmers, ranchers, educators, and agricultural professionals to ensure resources are accurate, relevant, and engaging.
  • Bring lessons into the classroom: Coordinate classroom pilot testing, gather educator feedback, and refine resources to meet the needs of today's teachers and students.
  • Support teacher professional development: Develop and facilitate workshops, presentations, and educational materials that help teachers confidently incorporate agriculture into their classrooms.
  • Help bring resources to life: Collaborate with team members and contractors to prepare curriculum for design, publication, and distribution.
  • Support grant‑funded projects: Assist with project proposals, budgets, evaluation, reporting, and documentation of project outcomes.
  • Stay organized and communicate: Maintain project records, proactively communicate with partners and colleagues, and keep projects moving forward.
  • Contribute to the team: Collaborate with CFAITC staff on organizational programs, outreach, and special projects.

Additional full‑time responsibilities include regular classroom engagement, agricultural industry visits and experiences, statewide outreach events, and participation in professional conferences. Full-time employees should anticipate approximately 3–5 days of travel per month, including occasional overnight travel.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced educator who combines creativity and a passion for education with strong organizational skills and the ability to independently manage projects.

You enjoy developing lessons, collaborating with others, and seeing projects from beginning to end. You're comfortable managing multiple priorities, communicating proactively, following up with partners, and taking initiative while keeping your team informed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, food, natural resources, environmental sciences, education, or related fields.
  • Valid California teaching credentials.
  • At least two years of classroom teaching experience beyond student teaching; five years preferred.
  • Strong understanding of California K–12 academic standards, including Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Excellent writing, editing, communication, organization, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and professional relationships independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related digital tools.
  • Ability to assist with event setup and transport materials weighing up to 45 pounds.
Even Better If You Have
  • Experience teaching agriculture, food, natural resources, environmental science, or related subjects.
  • A background in or experience with production agriculture.
  • Experience developing curriculum, instructional resources, or professional development for educators.
  • Experience with grant‑funded projects, educational partnerships, or project management.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, or Canva.
Why Join CFAITC?

Travel: Full-time employees should anticipate approximately 3–5 days per month, including occasional overnight travel. No travel is expected for part-time employees.
