Save the dates for New York on Sept 8 and LA on Nov 12.

ConnectED is seeking a skilled, thoughtful, and experienced curriculum developer to create an engaging and impactful elective course for high school students on courageous conversations. This is a part-time freelance role beginning in early July and concluding by September 2025.

The Courageous Conversations Certificate Program is a 13-week elective course designed to equip high school sophomores and juniors with the tools and practice to engage in meaningful, respectful, and nuanced dialogue across lines of difference. The course has been conceptually designed and outlined by the ConnectED team in collaboration with Horace Mann, and we are now looking to bring on a curriculum expert to bring this concept to life.

This role is ideal for someone with significant experience designing high school curricula, deep knowledge of frameworks and skills for courageous conversations, and an understanding of how to support student learning and dialogue on complex and polarizing topics. This is a freelance contract position, and preference will be given to those with experience in independent schools.

This is a temporary, remote position from July to September 2025. It reports to the Direcotr of Education for ConnectED.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build out the full 13-week course based on the existing outline and arc of learning.
  • Develop engaging learning activities, framing text, and classroom-friendly content for each week.
  • Craft discussion questions, reflection prompts, and rubrics that support student growth and assessment.
  • Recommend or curate relevant source material (readings, videos, primary sources, etc.) to support weekly topics and learning goals.
  • Collaborate with ConnectED’s internal team on tone, audience alignment, and integration with multimedia assets under development.
  • Revise and finalize materials based on team feedback to ensure the course is classroom-ready by early September 2025.
  • Start date: Early July 2025
  • First draft due: Mid-August 2025
  • Finalization and revisions complete: Early September 2025
Requirements
  • Proven experience developing curriculum for high school students, ideally in independent school settings.
  • Deep knowledge of frameworks for civil discourse, courageous conversations, and dialogue across differences.
  • Exceptional writing and instructional design skills, with the ability to create clear, student-centered materials.
  • A collaborative and flexible working style, with the ability to integrate feedback and meet deadlines.
  • Comfort working remotely and communicating via email, Zoom, and shared documents.
