JOURNEYMAN MECHANIC

Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation - Burlington, KS

POSITION SUMMARY

The Journeyman Mechanic is or has been an INPO-accredited Mechanic at Wolf Creek or another U.S. Nuclear Plant. They will provide leadership, experience, knowledge, and skill to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, surveillance, calibrations, repairs, rework, removal/installation, and preventative maintenance throughout the plant. The Journeyman Mechanic will have the knowledge and skill to use various test equipment, provide feedback on procedure corrections, work instructions, walk downs, job preparation, and execution.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Perform maintenance activities including troubleshooting, surveillance, calibration, repairs, rework, removal/installation, and preventative maintenance throughout the plant. Assist in "moderately complete" maintenance tasks as trained, applying knowledge and skills.
  2. Ensure components and equipment within systems are maintained and operated efficiently, following plant procedures safely and effectively.
  3. Develop, prepare, perform, and document assigned work, including understanding and completing pre-task paperwork, parts requisition, tool acquisition, and permits.
  4. Lead and coordinate work crews to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  5. Train and develop personnel in technical knowledge and skills.
  6. Assist in administrative duties such as evaluations, budget input, self-assessments, PIR dispositions, and procedure development.
  7. Plan, organize, and control assigned programs to ensure they meet their functions.
  8. Perform other activities such as E-plan, fire watch, confined space, and rigging, as qualified.
  9. Conduct corrective actions, walk downs, peer evaluations, and job critiques.
  10. Provide verbal and written turnover reports for job continuity and progress.
  11. Maintain cleanliness of shop, office, and work areas daily.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by supervision/management.
REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or GED plus five years relevant experience, or an Associate's degree in a relevant technical field plus three years, or a Bachelor's degree plus two years, or completion of an accredited Electrical apprenticeship or Navy Nuclear EM program.

Relevant experience includes working with components like pumps, valves, heat exchangers, diesel engines, performing alignments, and rigging.

To reach full qualification, candidates must complete the WCNOC Training Program. Equivalent training and performance testing may substitute for direct experience.

Regulatory Requirements

Must have three years of relevant experience as a journeyman mechanic, complying with Tech Spec 5.3.1 [ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978]. Contact Licensing for deviations or questions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Must pass the MASS test and be able to qualify for respirator use when necessary. A satisfactory work record and good attendance are required.
