Overview

The Homeless Alliance is seeking to build the capacity of its social enterprises by hiring a director of finance who will oversee all accounting aspects of Curbside Enterprises. The nonprofit includes social services (case management and housing support), four businesses providing supportive employment (Curbside Chronicle, Curbside Flowers, Curbside Apparel, and Sasquatch Shaved Ice), and administrative supports.

The director of finance should have in-depth knowledge of financial processes such as accounting, banking, investments, payroll, and accounts payable/receivable; have experience with nonprofit requirements including audits, grant compliance, and tax filings; and be skilled in developing and analyzing budgets, financials, and forecasts for both organizational operations and businesses. The director of finance will play an integral role in the future growth and sustainability of the organization.

The mission of Curbside Enterprises is to provide income and employment opportunities to people struggling with homelessness and poverty. Curbside works to put a face to the issue of homelessness, empower the community to play a role in solving the problem, provide dignified income to people who often feel like they have no other options, and help enable people to end their homelessness through our employment and housing programs.

Job Summary

The director of finance is a key member of Curbside Enterprises’ leadership team, responsible for the organization's financial strategy, operational sustainability, and day-to-day fiscal management. The director of finance will process financial transactions, reconcile accounts, prepare budgets, produce monthly financial reports, maintain adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of Curbside’s reported financial results, and ensure the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The candidate must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.

The director of finance must maintain professional integrity, exemplifying the values and mission of Curbside with the goal of providing staff an excellent employment experience in a coaching environment that supports growth, individual integrity, life-long learning and career satisfaction. Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain monthly departmental budgets and annual company operating budgets approved by the board of directors.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis to offer suggestions for reducing costs and improve financial performance.
  • Serve as primary contact on behalf of the agency for banking relationships.
  • Maintain and oversee cash flow management, including weekly cash flow, AP, AR, large wires and ACHs.
  • Record revenue, expenses, compensation and benefits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and banking transactions. Maintain all financial records, bookkeeping, and preparation of reports.
  • Facilitate payment to vendors, which may include verification of federal ID numbers, reviewing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Ensure outstanding obligations are credited upon payment, identify discount opportunities, and issue purchase order amendments or stop-payment orders as needed.
  • Prepare, post, verify, and record customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable. Create invoices according to company practices. Record donations and other pledges received. Prepare and maintain income log of rent checks.
  • Prepare cash deposits and daily income log.
  • Implement and maintain ASC 842 FASB lease accounting standard to ensure the accuracy of the financial impact of leases under US GAAP.
  • Attend monthly board meetings.
  • Create financial statements on a monthly and yearly basis and present to the finance committee and board of directors.
  • Work with the audit committee to ensure compliance with all applicable financial, accounting, legal, and regulatory requirements and best-practice standards; ensure a system of strong internal controls.
  • Oversee annual financial and single audit.
  • Oversee annual 401K audit.
  • Lead and generate financial data for annual IRS 990.
  • Manage annual state registration.
  • Manage annual Sam Registration.
  • File property exemptions on a yearly-basis.
  • Establish and maintain procurement policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and develop accounting positions as needed.
  • Reduce manual intervention by establishing methods to enhance financial processes with the use of technology.
  • Create and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Establish a process to accommodate urgent requests.
  • Reconcile restricted assets in conjunction with the director of development.
  • Maintain the agency’s fixed assets and reconcile booked depreciation.
  • Oversee monthly grant reimbursements.
  • Manage sales tax estimate and true up payments to the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
  • CPA preferred, or have 5 years of related experience
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online preferred
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting preferred
  • Experience with small business accounting a plus
  • Experience with federal grants preferred
  • Computer literate; experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), internet required
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Display a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.
  • Must be able to work some evening and weekends as required by the job.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must have a desire to grow with the agency.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and work at a computer for long periods of time in an office environment and must be able to lift/move weight up to 25 lbs. Employee is also required to accept incoming calls and must be able to hear and speak. Must have visual acuity to read and draft reports, memos, letters, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for the incumbent perform the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently. Must have the manual dexterity to manually operate and use a computer.
