Job summary

The Joyce Foundation in Chicago is seeking a Culture Program Director to lead and manage the $2 million annual Culture grantmaking portfolio, including the Joyce Awards, and to convene around racial equity in the arts in Chicago and the Great Lakes region.

Reporting to the VP of Programs and Strategy, this full-time role supervises a program assistant and requires evening/weekend engagement at exhibitions and performances as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years experience in the arts.
  • Deep knowledge of Chicago's cultural heritage and arts ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity in the arts.
  • Strong strategy, analytic, and communications abilities.
  • Ability to build networks with diverse arts constituencies.
  • Grantmaking experience or managing fellowships preferred.
  • Experience supervising staff and consultants preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the Culture Program strategy by monitoring field trends and collaborating with grantees and peers.
  • Oversee nearly $2 million in Chicago arts grantmaking with organizations rooted in communities of color.
  • Oversee the Joyce Awards process from outreach to final recommendations.
  • Advocate for racial equity in the arts through talks, panels, and events in Chicago and the Great Lakes.
