Job summary

HDR, Inc. invites motivated students to join as Cultural Resources Intern in Austin, TX. You will gain real-world experience on archaeological projects and connect with company leaders through mentoring and professional programs.

Responsibilities

  • Walk up to 6 miles a day in the field while recording cultural resources
  • Perform field surveys, desktop evaluations and curation under supervision
  • Assist project archeologists and crew chiefs as needed
  • Complete sketch maps of sites and field forms accurately and concisely
  • Use hand-held GPS units and photograph resources

In the role of Cultural Resources Intern, we'll count on you to:
  • Gain real-world experience on exciting archaeological projects
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of your Section Manager, Cultural Resource Specialists, or other professionals
  • Assist with a variety of archeological field and reporting work, such as conducting desktop evaluations, field surveys, and curation
  • Assist project archeologists and crew chiefs as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
A Cultural Resources Intern will be required to perform the following tasks in the field (with training):
  • Walk up to 6 miles a day
  • Record cultural resources in the field without any physical assistance (this could include hiking short distances in scrub and native vegetation and uneven ground conditions in high temperatures)
  • Lift up to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Work hours other than 8 to 5 which may include weekends and/or night shifts
  • Have (or able to obtain) a valid Texas Driver's License
  • Be able to operate a vehicle day or night
  • Travel may be required at times
  • Complete sketch maps of sites
  • Complete field forms accurately and concisely
  • Use hand-held GPS units
  • Photograph resources
Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field
  • 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Must possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures).
  • Candidates must also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks.
