The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS), Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is seeking a Cultural Resources Coordinator for the Statewide Survey based in Champaign, Illinois. The Cultural Resources Coordinator (CRC) serves as the day-to-day point of contact between ISAS and the Cultural Resources Unit at the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), assisting in coordination with federal and state agencies and tribes on transportation-related compliance issues.

Minimum qualifications include:

  1. A Ph.D. in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or a closely related field.
  2. At least five years of relevant field, analytical, and laboratory experience in CRM and/or transportation archaeology.
  3. Knowledge of Eastern Woodlands prehistoric and historic archaeology.
  4. Familiarity with Federal and Illinois historic and burial laws.
  5. Experience in personnel organization and project management to ensure compliance with legislation and procedures.
  6. Archaeological excavation, analysis, publication, and compliance experience in Midwestern sites is preferred.
  7. Basic computer skills in word processing, graphics, and databases.
