This position provides critical communications and liaison between Olympia School District educators and local nonprofit cultural organizations who receive Inspire Olympia Cultural Access grants, to expand opportunities for creative hands-on learning for Olympia public school students.

With a focus on expanding equitable access for Olympia youth, the CAPS Program Specialist offers guidance to Inspire Olympia’s funded organizations, builds partnerships, and supports the development of effective in-school and field learning opportunities in the arts culture and sciences, aligning the talent and resources of the local community to serve teachers and inspire students.

Ideal Candidate Profile
• Passionate about experiential learning and creative expression as catalysts for individual well-being, social awareness, and academic engagement.
• Knowledgeable and experienced in nonprofit delivery of educational programming for youth in arts, heritage and/or sciences.
• Familiar with Washington State learning standards and high-quality curriculum development to serve public school youth grades k through 12.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to nurture and maintain partnerships across many different organizations.
• Able to independently prioritize assignments, manage multiple simultaneous projects, ask for assistance when needed, and provide regular progress updates to collaborators, supervisors, and colleagues.

Under the general supervision of the Cultural Access Program Manager, this position plans and implements Cultural Access in Public Schools or CAPS program. The CAPS Coordinator will provide guidance, coordination and logistical support for Inspire Olympia-funded nonprofit organizations to develop and provide educational activities and teacher development opportunities in the Olympia School District. They will serve as a primary point of contact between these cultural organizations and OSD’s schools and teachers.

About Inspire Olympia: “Inspire Olympia” is a voter-approved cultural access initiative to increase access to arts, culture, heritage, and science experiences in Olympia by reducing barriers to access and expanding offerings, particularly for underserved youth. It is funded by a one-tenth of one percent sales tax in the City of Olympia and serves city residents.

Essential Functions

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

1. Develop and maintain relationships within the Olympia School District and local nonprofit cultural community.

2. Support collaboration and facilitate communication between non-profit youth education providers and Olympia School District teachers and staff.

3. Provide logistics and coordination for Cultural Organization readiness and compliance with OSD or local school requirements.

4. Plan and coordinate program activities, events, and informational materials specific to the CAPS program, such as workshops and training opportunities, and related communications and marketing efforts.

5. Assist with developing and attaining program goals and objectives through effective program planning, communication, problem-solving and implementation.

6. Participate in ongoing program assessment and continuous improvement efforts that support the Inspire Olympia program.

7. Prepare narrative and statistical reports of program activities and expenditures.

8. Represent Inspire Olympia in the community and participate in public events to share information about the program, including public engagements, presentations, educational workshops.

9. Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

1. Research methodology, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.

2. Knowledge of youth program quality standards and other youth program best practices.

3. Knowledge of and ability to interpret OSPI state learning standards.

4. Media resources for community-service programs.

5. Preparing a long-range plan to accomplish specified goals and objectives.

6. Solicit and maintain program support from a variety of organizations, groups and audiences.

7. Speak persuasively in a variety of settings before a variety of audiences.

8. Work cooperatively as a member of a service-oriented team.

Experience/Education:

1. Two years’ experience building and implementing successful educational opportunities for youth and adult learners.

2. Four-year college or university degree in Education, Non-profit Administration or a program-related field preferred.

3. Experience collaborating with individuals who have different cultural, social, economic, or lived experiences than yourself.

4. Previous experience working directly with public school teachers, principals, and staff preferred.

Special Requirement:

1. Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License.
