Job summary

Chino Valley High School seeks a part-time Culinary Arts Paraprofessional to support teachers in the kitchen and classroom. The role involves planning, prepping, and delivering instructional activities in Culinary Arts and related CTE tasks.

The ideal candidate has knowledge of commercial kitchen operations, food safety, and strong written/spoken communication. The position is 16 hours per week and located on-site at the school.

Qualifications

• Industry certification or higher education in Culinary Arts or Restaurant Management.
• Experience in a commercial kitchen.
• Passage of a state-approved assessment or holding an Associate’s degree/60+ semester hours.
• First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supports the teacher to ensure a safe, stimulating Culinary Arts classroom and kitchen environment.
• Assists in planning and preparing daily activities and instructional efforts.
• Helps prepare lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas.
• Develops teaching aids for in-class use, including activity sheets and handouts.
• Presents subject matter using stories, discussions, and role-playing.
• Assists students individually or in groups with assignments.
• May lead/train staff, interns, or volunteers as needed.
• Performs other CTE/Culinary Arts duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

• Assists teachers with curriculum planning, supervision, and teaching of children in a classroom setting; assists in presenting and reinforcing learning concepts.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides support to the teacher to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment within the Culinary Arts kitchen and classroom and possibly other CTE activities.
• Assists the teacher in planning and preparation for daily activities; aids instructional efforts of the teacher within the Culinary Arts kitchen and classroom and possibly other CTE activities.
• Assists the teacher in preparing lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas.
• Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids for use in classroom, including activity sheets, drawings, and similar handouts for CTE Dept. or Culinary Arts kitchen and classroom and possibly other CTE activities.
• Presents subject matter to students under the guidance of a teacher, utilizing a variety of methods including stories, discussions, and role-playing.
• Assists students individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
• May lead, guide, and train staff, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
• Performs miscellaneous Culinary Arts or other CTE related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of commercial kitchen operations.
• Knowledge of commercial food safety, food handling and safe food preparation procedures.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
• Skill in preparing instructional aids and plans.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
• Ability to provide activities for students that encourage healthy growth.
• Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for students.
• Adolescent supervision skills.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Preferred: Industry certification or higher education degree within the field of Culinary Arts or Restaurant Management.
• Experience working in commercial kitchen.
• Experience implementing commercial food safety procedures, including the handling of food and safe food preparations.
• Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through the passage of a formal state approved assessment listed below within 90 days of hire Para Pro Assessment Para Pro Assessment;ORMust have an Associate’s degree or greater or 60+ semester hours of coursework documented on an official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education.
• First Aid and CPR certification required within 90 days of hire..
