Job summary

BlueRidge Vista Behavioral Hospital in Cincinnati, OH, is seeking a compassionate Recreational, Art, or Music Therapist (CTRS Preferred) to join our multidisciplinary team. You will assess patients, develop and facilitate therapy groups, and promote recovery through evidence‑based recreational, art, or music therapy interventions during hospitalization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, or a related field from an accredited program.
• Credentials: CTRS, MT-BC, or ATR/ATR-BC as applicable.
• Knowledge of behavioral health diagnoses, therapeutic interventions, and group facilitation.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients' recreational and expressive therapy needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Develop, implement, and facilitate therapeutic recreation, art therapy, and/or music therapy groups.
• Document assessments, plans, progress notes, and discharge recommendations in the EMR.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other team members.
• Promote recovery by supporting coping skills, emotional regulation, and engagement in therapy activities.
• Maintain therapy equipment, supplies, and safe therapeutic environments.
• Participate in care planning, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.

We offer inpatient services for adult patients, partial hospitalization care, and intensive outpatient care.

Position Summary

Blue Ridge Vista Behavioral Hospital is seeking a compassionate and engaging Recreational, Art, or Music Therapist to join our multidisciplinary treatment team. This position is responsible for assessing patients' recreational and expressive therapy needs, developing and facilitating therapeutic groups, and promoting recovery through evidence-based recreational, art, or music therapy interventions. The therapist collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to support patients in developing healthy coping skills, improving emotional well-being, and enhancing overall functioning throughout hospitalization.

• Conduct assessments to identify patients' recreational, leisure, expressive therapy, and psychosocial needs.
• Develop, implement, and facilitate therapeutic recreation, art therapy, and/or music therapy groups for adult behavioral health patients.
• Create individualized treatment interventions that support patient recovery and treatment goals.
• Document assessments, treatment plans, group participation, progress notes, and discharge recommendations in the electronic medical record.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Encourage patient engagement in therapeutic activities that promote emotional regulation, social interaction, stress reduction, and healthy coping skills.
• Modify interventions to meet the cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities of each patient.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment while monitoring patient participation and behavior.
• Participate in treatment team meetings, care planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain therapy equipment, supplies, and activity areas.
• Comply with all hospital policies, accreditation standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, or a related field from an accredited program.
• One of the following credentials:
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS); or
  • Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC); or
  • Registered and/or Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR or ATR-BC), as applicable.
• Knowledge of behavioral health diagnoses, therapeutic interventions, and group facilitation techniques.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
