Job summary

Montauk Capital seeks a founding Chief Technology Officer to architect and build an AI-native customer engagement and recovery platform for regulated industries. This co-founder role blends hands-on product engineering with strategic ownership of architecture, models, data, and enterprise integrations.

The leader will work directly with customers and the CEO to translate high-stakes problems into a scalable, trustworthy platform that delivers personalized interventions while ensuring security,

Qualifications

• Experience building production systems with language models, dialogue systems, or autonomous agents.
• Strong understanding of personalization, ranking, experimentation, and predictive modeling.
• Ability to balance model-based reasoning with deterministic controls and human-in-the-loop.

Responsibilities

• Make foundational technical decisions across models, architecture, data pipelines, APIs, and enterprise integrations while remaining hands-on in the product
• Build conversational agents that understand context, personalize engagement, negotiate within policy, and coordinate across channels
• Design and ship a decisioning and personalization engine using ML, experimentation, and behavioral signals to choose interventions and resolutions
• Establish rigorous learning/evaluation systems: data pipelines, feedback loops, offline/online evaluation, observability, guardrails, and human-review
• Engineer for enterprise-grade reliability: security, privacy, auditability, explainability, compliance, and dependable performance in regulated environments
• Partner with design customers to understand workflows, deploy quickly, measure outcomes, and scale the platform
• Recruit and lead early engineers and applied AI talent, fostering speed and technical rigor

Role overview

A founding Chief Technology Officer is sought to architect and build an AI-native customer engagement and recovery platform for regulated industries from the ground up. This is a co-founder-level, zero-to-one technical leadership role that blends hands-on product engineering with strategic ownership of architecture, models, data, and enterprise integrations. The leader will work side by side with customers and the CEO to translate high-stakes customer-resolution problems into a next-generation applied AI platform that pairs rapid product velocity with the reliability, explainability, and security that regulated enterprises require.

Responsibilities

• Make foundational technical decisions across models, agent architecture, data pipelines, orchestration, APIs, infrastructure, and enterprise integrations while remaining hands-on in the product


• Build conversational agents that understand account context, personalize engagement, negotiate within policy, coordinate across channels, and take action through enterprise systems


• Design and ship a decisioning and personalization engine that uses machine learning, experimentation, and behavioral signals to choose the right intervention, message, channel, timing, and resolution path for each consumer


• Establish rigorous learning and evaluation systems, including data pipelines, feedback loops, offline and online evaluations, observability, guardrails, and human-review mechanisms


• Engineer for enterprise-grade reliability, covering security, privacy, auditability, explainability, compliance, and dependable performance in regulated customer environments


• Partner directly with design customers to understand workflows, deploy quickly, measure financial and experience outcomes, and turn early implementations into a scalable platform


• Recruit and lead early engineers and applied AI talent, establishing a culture of speed and technical rigor

Requirements

• Track record of building and deploying production systems using language models, dialogue systems, or autonomous agents for complex customer or enterprise workflows


• Strong command of personalization, ranking or recommendation, experimentation, optimization, and predictive modeling, plus the feedback loops that improve decisions over time


• Applied AI product judgment: knowing where to let models reason, where to keep deterministic controls, and how to keep humans in the loop


• Experience integrating into complex enterprise data and workflow environments and building secure, observable, reliable systems


• Conviction that next-generation applied AI can make consequential customer interactions more personalized, empathetic, and effective


• Zero-to-one technical leadership: comfort moving from ambiguity to architecture to working product, shipping quickly, and attracting outstanding people


• Founder-level agency, judgment, curiosity, resilience, and urgency, with willingness to own product, technology, talent, and company-building beyond a conventional engineering remit

Nice to have

• Direct collections-industry experience is not required; interest from technical leaders bringing AI-native software velocity and customer focus into a regulated market is especially welcome
