Reports to: Principal
Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management of Instructional Time: The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of the lesson; gets the class started quickly; ensures students are on task and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
- Management of Student Behavior: The teacher establishes rules and procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, classroom movement, and administers frequent monitoring; promptly stops inappropriate behavior while maintaining student dignity.
- Instructional Presentation: The teacher reviews previous materials, introduces the lesson and objectives, presents content fluently, uses understandable language and relevant examples, assigns tasks with high success rates, asks appropriate questions, maintains a brisk pace and smooth transitions, summarizes main points at lesson end.
- Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: The teacher sets work standards and due dates, circulates to check performance, uses oral, written, and other products to monitor progress, poses questions clearly.
- Instructional Feedback: The teacher provides feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and gives sustaining feedback after incorrect responses by probing, repeating the question, giving a clue, or allowing more time.
- Facilitating Instruction: The teacher plans instruction compatible with school and system goals, uses diagnostic information to develop and revise objectives, maintains accurate records, and aligns objectives, strategies, assessment, and student needs.
- Interacting Within the Educational Environment: The teacher treats all students fairly and equitably and interacts effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and community.
- Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, follows laws, policies, and regulations, and engages in professional development.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Physical Requirements: Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools; able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects with negligible force; consistent with light work.

- Language Ability: Ability to read various correspondence, prepare reports and instructional materials using prescribed formats.

- Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record, deliver and explain information; communicate in technical or professional language including medical, legal and counseling terminology.
- Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use mathematical formulas, perform arithmetic operations, and apply descriptive statistics.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
- Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately with office equipment.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle various items, office equipment, hand tools; minimal eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Color Discrimination: Ability to differentiate between colors and shades.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to work under stress and handle emergency situations.
- Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear, communicate via telephone.
