Under the direction of a radiologist, the CT/XRAY Technologist performs various CT procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Obtains high quality images, which are interpreted by a radiologist in the evaluation of disease or abnormality. Assists radiologists or other staff physicians in the performance of diagnostic CT procedures whenever required. This position also requires proficiency in performing general radiography, laboratory procedures, and related patient care according to physician orders. Ensures decisions made are based on Family Centered Care philosophy.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*

1. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to utilize computerized tomography equipment by selecting proper technical factors based on age, size, weight, and anatomical differences and general health status of various age groups. Critiques images for diagnostic quality.

2. Utilizing proper radiation protection accessory devices and age-appropriate immobilizers to produce high quality CT scans under the philosophy of A.L.A.R.A.

3. Under the direction of a physician demonstrates knowledge and ability to administer and document contrast and IV contrast according to standards for patients of all ages. Maintains proficiency in venipuncture and IV contrast safety. Assists radiologist and physicians in the performance of diagnostic CT procedures with patients of all ages performing support functions.

4. Demonstrates competency in the use of general radiographic equipment and in physical comfort measures and psychosocial issues when giving care to include neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients:

Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to identify educational needs, obtain patient history, and provide information in easily understood terminology with clear communication style about procedures and care to patients of various ages. Determines appropriateness of procedure based on the above.

6. Maintains departmental equipment and facilities in a safe and clean condition. Reports equipment malfunctions. Assists in training and evaluating new CT associates and students.

7. Demonstrates competency in the physical comfort measures and psychosocial issues when giving care to include neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Demonstrates high level of care, courtesy, and cooperation. Educates patients about their procedures and ensures patients and their families’ comfort and need are appropriately addressed in a dignified, confidential manner.

8. Demonstrates awareness of safety standards for self and assigned area. Follows organization’s mission and values of customer service.

9. Assist in laboratory testing as needed.

10. Review and uphold lab policies and procedures.

11. Assist in patient care, to the extent that training and education allows. This may include obtaining vital signs, bringing patients back, helping set up for procedures or other duties not usually performed by radiology technologists but that are within their scope of practice.

12. Perform phlebotomy duties, basic laboratory procedures, wound cultures, Point of Care testing, and other care interventions within scope of practice and direction of the prescribing practitioner.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: Associate degree (or equivalent to become A.R.R.T registered).

  • Must have completed formal radiologic technology training at an AMA approved school.
  • Current registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.).
  • Must have and maintain ODH registration with the State Medical Board.

Skills:

  • Must be able to cope with the stressful situations and handle deadlines in a demanding, fast paced medical environment.
  • Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills.
  • Must be competent in the use of facility communication systems and equipment (e.g., EMR/PACS and fax machines).
  • Must be able to input and retrieve information from radiological or other medical equipment and computerized systems.
  • Completed company provided laboratory testing course and competency.

License: Must have ARRT registry requirements and be registered in both X-Ray & CT. License by state if applicable.

Certification: Must be CPR certified

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment: Must be able to tolerate wearing heavy protective garments for extended period of time.

Physical Demands: Imaging technologists must be able to tolerate possible exposure to radiation and electrical hazards, blood borne pathogens or bodily fluids. Must be able to move about the facility and between workstations and to handle stooping, standing, walking, and lifting as required by the position. Must be able to move, lift, or carry light objects frequently and move with assistance “very heavy” materials and/or patients occasionally.
