Job Summary

The CT Technologist I performs procedures according to departmental protocols and standards, operating CT scanners and related equipment with proficiency. Equipment includes scanners, post-processing stations, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction devices, patient transport, and monitoring equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Examines requests, verifies orders, and consults with Radiologists when necessary. Contacts providers for discrepancies.
  • Properly identifies patients using two identifiers and explains procedures briefly. Prepares patients and documents accordingly.
  • Gathers comprehensive medical history from EMRs and patient interviews, records details on requisitions, and correlates test results.
  • Manages the exam process from start to finish, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Prepares and administers IV contrast per protocols, recording details as requested.
  • Evaluates image quality, consults with Radiologists, and recognizes abnormal anatomy, performing additional processing as needed.
  • Performs basic patient care, communicates changes, and initiates life support if necessary, assisting in emergencies like 'code blue'.
  • Performs CT scans, assists with invasive procedures, maintains sterile technique, and follows infection control policies.
  • Obtains medications or contrast agents as directed by licensed practitioners.
  • Practices radiation safety, reports equipment malfunctions, and adheres to safety standards and policies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment, stocks supplies, and assists other medical personnel during exams.

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy lifting, frequent standing, walking, and bending. May be exposed to physical hazards and radiation, requiring adherence to safety guidelines.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. ARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, with advanced registry in CT within one year of hire, plus current CPR certification.
