Position Summary
The Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist performs scans, prepares patients for diagnostic procedures by explaining the process and positioning patients to correctly capture the images requested by a physician. Minimum of two years in acute hospital-based experience. Under the direction of the Imaging Services Director, the CT Technologist will perform all aspects of various CT procedures to the specifications and standards established by the department’s Medical Director. Rotates shifts as assigned. Applies good interpersonal and communication skills.

Essential Job Functions and Core Responsibilities

  1. Adheres to the philosophy of patient safety and reporting of potential or actual safety issues.
  2. Attends in-service classes as assigned; complies with all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  3. Supports the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork among coworkers, maintaining a positive attitude and working relationships.
  4. Documents examination history, unusual conditions or limitations, examination time, and technologist identification in the PACS system.
  5. Uses information systems for daily duties and billing procedures.
  6. Maintains patient confidentiality and abides by HIPAA regulations.
  7. Performs safety inspections of equipment prior to use; reports unsafe acts or conditions.
  8. Follows safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  9. Assesses pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patient conditions to demonstrate requested anatomy, proper positioning, technique, contrast media, immobilization, and radiation protection. Provides education to family members as needed.
  10. Ensures quality imaging through proper exposure factors and patient positioning.
  11. Possesses skills and knowledge of radiological techniques; responsible for safe operation and maintenance of radiological equipment.
  12. Reviews radiology requisitions, verifies examinations with doctor’s orders, checks patient history and instructions. Greets patients, verifies identity, explains procedures to ensure patient satisfaction.
  13. Rotates shifts and work areas as scheduled; works overtime as needed.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology Program.

Work Experience: Minimum of two years in an acute hospital setting preferred; no prior experience required for radiology interns at Methodist Hospital.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • ARRT Registration
  • Current California Certified Radiologic Technologist
  • Current California Fluoroscopy Permit
  • CT ARRT certification
  • Venipuncture certification
  • Must maintain BLS certification
