We are a 716-bed independent academic medical center. We are the community's major referral hospital, providing a wide range of services.

SCHEDULE:

  • Part time 20 hours – flexible schedule (8's, 10's, 12's or a combination)
  • Every 4th weekend on night shift (7:00pm – 7:00am)

LOCATION:

  • Baystate Medical Center
  • Springfield, MA

Summary:

Under the supervision of a certified CT technologist and in conjunction with a Radiologist, operates CT equipment to obtain diagnostic images according to specifications. The CT Tech Trainee performs CT exams in compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies. The incumbent selects appropriate imaging parameters to produce CT exams of diagnostic quality with 90-95% accuracy. Assists the radiologist in specialized exams such as biopsies and abscess drainage, follows proper patient care protocols, and provides accurate documentation. Learns to operate multi-slice CT scanners to produce cross-sectional radiographs of patients for diagnostic purposes.

Job Requirements:

  1. Learn sound knowledge and proficiency in the use of CT Scan equipment.
  2. Under the direct supervision of a certified CT technologist, perform CT exams as per protocol on various body parts in a timely manner.
  3. Complete appropriate history forms and check labs when necessary.
  4. Properly identify patient information using two patient identifiers and comply with safety standards.
  5. Perform accurate and high-quality exams using the ALARA principle.
  6. Accurately input data into computer systems and verify timely transfer of images.
  7. Review authorization/requisition paperwork to verify examination type and alert for contra-indicators.
  8. Explain the nature of procedures to patients in layman's terms.
  9. Learn to start I.V.s independently and administer contrast media.
  10. Perform quality checks on equipment according to departmental procedures.

Required Work Experience:

  1. Satisfactory completion of a formal radiologic technology program in an AMA approved school preferred.
  2. Must have the ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  3. Must obtain CT license within one year of completion of training.

  1. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
