The CT Technologist performs computed tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assisting with interventional and therapeutic procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex CT procedures.
- Evaluate radiographs to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value.
- Use appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from medical records, proxies, and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety.
- Determine patient preparation needs for procedures.
- Prep patients for scanning (shielding, immobilization devices).
- Assist providers with CT-guided interventional procedures.
- Perform CT examinations and administer contrast following departmental protocols.
- Provide explanations and instructions to patients, addressing questions and concerns.
- Perform venipuncture, IV maintenance, and related procedures.
- Monitor patient's physical condition during procedures.
- Review images for diagnostic quality and determine if additional scans are needed.
- Perform retrospective reconstruction on raw data.
- Provide technical assistance and instruction to students, employees, and residents.
- Adhere to principles of 'Image Gently' & 'Image Wisely'.
- Follow infection control guidelines and sterile techniques.
- Adjust scanning parameters to optimize visualization of pathology.
- Review diagnostic or therapeutic data for completeness and accuracy.
- Document data in appropriate records.
- Archive images according to guidelines.
- Assess equipment performance.
- Perform daily clerical duties using hospital systems.
- Greet patients using AIDET standards.
- Administer emergency care, including CPR if necessary.
- Work scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Participate in on-call assignments as per policy.
- Follow policies on ID, behavior, attendance, and punctuality.
- Modify care to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
- Follow organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Perform modality-specific quality assurance.
- Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
- Lift at least 25 lbs., push/pull 50 lbs., stand for at least 6 hours daily.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Completion of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology program.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
Licenses and Certifications
- ARRT (CT) certification within 9 months of start.
- NJ State license for Diagnostic Radiology.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of start.
