To operate CT scanners, obtaining diagnostic images of specified body parts as requested. The technologist must be able to produce quality images to present to the radiologist for interpretation and function independently with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
Communication/Customer Service Responsibility:
- Greets patient by introducing self and verifying their name and birthdate.
- Collects pertinent patient history, reviews procedure orders, medications, allergies, and questionnaires.
- Explains procedures to patients and addresses questions to ensure understanding.
- Anticipates patient needs, keeps them informed of delays, and responds to concerns appropriately.
- Communicates professionally with all customers, coworkers, physicians, and staff, respecting differences.
- Adheres to hospital policies and core values, striving to exceed expectations.
Clinical Responsibility:
- Positions patient, scans, and archives procedures according to protocols, producing diagnostic images within quality parameters.
- Uses proper venipuncture techniques for contrast media administration as needed, labels syringes per policy.
- Identifies, prepares, administers, and documents medications used during procedures.
- Reconciles patient medications to prevent interactions with contrast media.
- Completes work efficiently and timely.
- Assists coworkers in other modalities, including starting IVs and preparing patients.
- Assists physicians with invasive procedures when applicable.
- Verifies physician orders for accuracy and acts accordingly.
Patient Safety Responsibility: Radiation and General Safety
- Uses radiation-reducing techniques without compromising image quality.
- Protects patients, staff, and self from radiation exposure.
- Wears and maintains dosimeters properly.
- Uses devices to move patients safely.
- Monitors patients to minimize fall or injury risks.
- Follows safety protocols, including hand hygiene, patient ID, and proper labeling.
- Maintains confidentiality and complies with HIPAA.
- Prepares for emergencies following policies and procedures.
Information Systems Responsibility:
- Ensures images are correctly linked in PACS.
- Completes all documentation related to CT studies accurately.
- Maintains knowledge of RIS and PACS systems, enters data correctly, and manages images and reports.
- Performs tasks such as burning images to CDs when required.
General Department Accountability:
- Stays current with skills and departmental changes through meetings and training.
- Coordinates scheduling and utilizes personnel and equipment efficiently while maintaining quality.
- Maintains cleanliness and stock levels in work areas.
- Reports equipment issues promptly and maintains safety standards.
- Adheres to attendance policies and communicates schedule variations.
- Maintains necessary credentials and submits renewals on time.
- Supports departmental improvements and cross-training initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities:
Access to patient records is limited to necessary cases for patient care, regulatory compliance, or quality assurance, with proper documentation of access. Confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills:
- Graduation from ARRT-accredited Radiologic Technology program required.
- Minimum 2 years related experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, sterile techniques, patient positioning, and operation of imaging equipment.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Board certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Valid Ohio Radiographer license.
- CPR certification preferred.
