Job summary

MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, is hiring a CT Technologist II. This role provides high-quality imaging care in a team-focused environment and includes a $25,000 limited-time sign-on bonus.

You will perform CT imaging, prepare patients, administer contrast per policy, maintain equipment, and participate in quality improvement while delivering compassionate care aligned with MedStar Health's SPIRIT values.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required; or a radiologic technology certificate from an accredited program.
• Less than 1 year to 6 months of CT experience required; CT certificate or cross-training preferred.
• Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy; Basic computer skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Executes basic clinical competency in CT across all locations and patient populations.
• Selects appropriate technical factors and adheres to radiation dose reduction principles.
• Assists with invasive procedures performed under CT guidance.
• Maintains a clean, safe work environment and prepares examination rooms and supplies.
• Prepares contrast administration areas using aseptic techniques and sterile processes.
• Transports patients to the CT scanner and verifies orders and prep.
• Communicates with patients to obtain medical history and explain procedures.
• Documents patient care activities in EHR and distributes final images to PACS.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Executes basic clinical competency in CT across all locations and patient populations. Selects appropriate technical factors based on individual patient needs and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. Adheres to Image Wisely and Image Gently principles to support radiation dose reduction. Performs IV access and administers contrast according to facility policy. Assists with invasive procedures performed under CT guidance.
• Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and workflow optimization efforts to enhance patient experience, quality, safety, operational efficiency, and overall patient care. Actively contributes to student and employee training, onboarding, and educational activities.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and prepared work environment, including cleaning and preparing patient rooms. Maintains adequate supplies and inventory within the assigned area. Prepares contrast administration and invasive procedure areas using aseptic techniques and sterile processes in accordance with established protocols.
• Transports patients to the CT scanner and prepares the examination room. Verifies orders, patient preparation, and the reason for the exam to ensure appropriate scanning protocols are utilized. Communicates effectively with patients by obtaining medical history, answering questions, and explaining procedures to promote patient understanding, comfort, and cooperation. Processes examinations for interpretation.
• Ensures the proper maintenance and operation of equipment by performing quality control procedures and promptly reporting equipment or environmental concerns.
• Provides patient education and support, including preparing patients for procedures and addressing their physical and emotional needs. Escalates concerns through appropriate channels as needed.
• Prioritizes patient flow and coordinates care through consistent and effective communication with patients, care teams, and families. Documents patient care activities in applicable electronic health record systems and distribute final images to the PACS system in a timely manner for interpretation.
• Consistently acts and communicates professionally, embodying the organization's SPIRIT values and fostering a respectful, supportive environment for patients, families, and colleagues. Adheres to ARRT Standards of Ethics.
• Applies knowledge of CT principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, radiation safety, physics, patient positioning, and patient care techniques. Complies with Joint Commission, state, federal, organizational, and departmental regulatory requirements and standards.

Qualifications

Education

• Associate degree required; or
• Certificate in Radiologic Technology from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) required.

Experience

• Less than 1 year to 6 months of CT experience required; or
• Successful completion of a CT certificate or cross-training program preferred.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $42.82 - USD $78.27 /Hr.
