Job Responsibilities
- Obtains CT images according to established protocols.
- Ensures the patient is properly prepared, positioned, immobilized, and that protective shielding is used when applicable; selects correct technical factors.
- Performs I-Stat blood test and translates results for contrast procedures.
- Dispenses appropriate oral contrast to patients based on patient history and protocol.
- Performs venous access for patients requiring IV contrast administration as directed by a radiologist.
- Conducts CT Interventional Procedures and is skilled as a first assistant scrub to the Interventionalist, prepares sterile procedure trays, and provides assistance and appropriate supplies for biopsies, drainages, aspirations, Endo leak Glueing, and Ablations; maintains CT interventional inventory (supplies, catheters, wires, needles, etc.).
- Operates Cryo, Radiofrequency, and microwave ablations, including equipment set-up, machine operation, and various probe use.
- Performs CTA imaging (Carotid, Head, Vertebral, Run-Offs, PE critical bolus timing) and advanced CTA studies such as Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Replacement, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, and Cardiac imaging.
- Provides technical expertise to operate CT Scanners, power injectors, and computer systems to acquire images for use by the radiologist in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.
- Maintains knowledge to operate different CT Systems at multiple locations.
- Maintains protocols based on Image Gently Guidelines and integrates CT scanners into a program that compiles dose data from each scan performed, notifying the user when a scan exceeds specific preset levels.
- Maintains vast knowledge of all clinical histories to match appropriate protocols and knowledge of all major organ systems and vascular systems needed to produce quality cardiac images.
- Ensures all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized, and in working order.
- Maintains working knowledge of pharmacology to ensure lab results are obtained prior to scheduled exams and determines possible drug interactions with IV contrast (e.g., Metformin and Glucophage based drugs for patients receiving IV contrast).
- Maintains knowledge of physics to lower patient dose on CT scanner and interprets technical factors to increase quality or speed of scan.
- Maintains working knowledge to extract Pre-Cert Patient and Insurance information to schedule exams in a timely manner and interfaces with ordering providers regarding correct exams, lab tests required, and appropriate pertinent clinical information.
- Maintains inventory management system for CT supplies and inventory.
- Provides correct CTP coding and charges for patient procedures and supplies.
- Performs equipment quality control tests and notifies team leader and radiology maintenance of irregularities.
- Utilizes Life Image image management for scans received from outside hospitals and imports images to the picture archiving communication system in an appropriate manner when requested.
- Handles access and management of non-controlled medications for imaging exams and procedure tray set up.
